Mount Elijah
Upland Larkspur
(Delphinium nuttallianum)
Moderate
5.5-mile loop
1000 feet elevation gain
Open early June to mid-November
This fun loop crosses the panoramic top of a Siskiyou peak named for Elijah Davidson, discoverer of the nearby Oregon Caves. A short side trip through a wildflower meadow leads to Bigelow Lake, full of lilypads. The entire watershed here was added to the Oregon Caves National Monument as a preserve in 2015, so the grazing cows are gone, road scars have been rehabilitated, and interpretive trail signs are in place. Pets are not allowed.
