Surrounded by sheer, 500-foot cliffs, the viewpoint on the edge of Tam McArthur Rim is an almost aerial overlook of the Three Sisters.
Even in August a few patches of snow remain among the struggling trees and wildflowers of the rim’s tablelands. Although hiking to the rim of this enormous fault scarp is not difficult, you arrive at an elevation greater than that of many Oregon mountains. Lewis (“Tam”) A. McArthur was secretary of the Oregon Geographic Names Board from 1916 to 1949.
