Umbrella Falls

Easy

4.4-mile loop

800 feet elevation gain

Open late June through October

Use: hikers, bicycles, horses

With two lovely waterfalls and a forest full of huckleberries, it’s easy to forget that this loop hike on Mt. Hood traverses one of the state’s largest ski areas. A compromise shifted the condomiums and shops once planned for Hood River Meadows to the already-developed area at Government Camp. A walk to Umbrella and Sahalie Falls shows how much natural beauty was saved.

The trailhead is the same as for the more difficult hike to Elk Meadows.
