One of the most accessible old-growth forests in Oregon towers above this portion of the Salmon River. The popular riverside trail here not only passes 10-foot-thick red cedars, it also leads to small sandy beaches with deep green pools suitable for a chilly summer swim. And since a paved road parallels the route, it’s easy to arrange a car shuttle so you can hike the 2.4-mile trail one way.
