When Captain Felix Scott led the first wagon train through the McKenzie Pass area in 1862, he blazed a sinuous route across an alien volcanic landscape of cinder cones and lava flows beside North Sister. This hike traces his footsteps, following the Scott Trail to a viewpoint atop the crater rim of four connected cinder cones. If you have the energy to hike 0.8 mile further, you can picnic in a meadow with one of Oregon’s best lupine displays.
