The forests west of Three Fingered Jack conceal dozens of lakes, meadows, and buttes. Of these, Duffy Lake is the easiest and most frequently visited goal, a great swimming lake with a reflection of craggy Duffy Butte. For a more challenging destination, continue past Mowich Lake into woods that were burned by a 2003 wildfire. Here you can climb Red Butte, a cinder cone with a map-like view of the entire area.
