Wildflowers, tumbling brooks, and strange ash pinnacles highlight these short loop trails near popular Mazama Campground in Crater Lake National Park.  Although not connected, the two paths are just 2 miles apart, so it’s easy to hike them both in a day.  Note that pets are banned on park trails.

The 1.7-mile loop through Annie Creek Canyon starts . . .

Black bears do visit these woods daily, looking for campsites with obvious cooler chests, but you’re unlikely to see these unaggressive bears. On the other hand, you’re almost certain to spot three species of squirrels and chipmunks. The lively, orange-bellied Douglas squirrels have no stripes and often chatter in trees. Golden-mantled ground squirrels have striped sides and scamper into burrows. Genuine chipmunks are smaller and have side stripes that extend all the way past their eyes.
