This popular portion of the Salmon River Trail begins with a riverside stroll among huge old-growth trees. After 2 miles, the path leaves the river and climbs to a bluff with a view of the Salmon River’s rugged upper canyon. Inaccessible waterfalls roar far below. Backpackers or hardy day hikers can continue on a demanding 15.7-mile loop to the Devils Peak lookout tower.
