In the middle of Portland’s vast Forest Park, the surprisingly quiet Maple Trail passes a viewpoint of Cascade peaks and explores grotto-like canyons where mossy bigleaf maples arch above delicate woodland wildflowers. For an easy hike, turn back where the Maple Trail crosses Leif Erikson Drive. For a longer loop hike, continue up to the Wildwood Trail and follow this almost level path as it contours around densely forested ridges back to the start of the Maple Trail.
