After the federal government granted a railroad company a checkerboard of land to build track from California to Oregon in the late 1800s, this square mile of low-elevation forest became a forgotten valley, almost entirely trapped by private clearcuts and ranches. But one small route of public access remained. Now this trailhead is your gateway to the Enchanted Forest.
An easy trail contours through the woods to a creekside memorial. A slightly steeper trail climbs along a different creek to a viewpoint.
