Groups to Hike With
If you enjoy the camaraderie of hiking with a group, contact one of the organizations that leads trips to the trails in this book. None of the groups requires that you be a member to join scheduled hikes. Hikers often carpool from a preset meeting place. If you have no car, expect to chip in for mileage.
Altair Ski & Sports Club (Eugene). One to three hikes, downhill ski trips, or tours per week. Meetings at 7pm on the second Wednesday of each month at the Vets Club, 1626 Willamette St., Eugene. Check altairsports.org or call 541-485-4464.
Bend Park & Recreation District (Bend). Vans transport hikers from the BPRD office (799 SW Columbia, Bend, OR 97701) to guided hikes with a variety of focuses: wildflowers, geology, history, women-only trips, snowshoeing, backpacking. Deschutes Land Trust (Bend/Sisters). Five to ten free hikes a week, led by knowledgeable volunteers. See http://www.deschuteslandtrust.org/hikes-events for current options.
