The unstaffed lookout tower atop Devils Peak, with a view from Mt. Hood to Mt. Jefferson, is maintained by volunteers as a cozy shelter and lunch spot for hikers. Getting there, however, poses a dilemma. The trail from Road 2613 is short, easy, and scenic-but the drive to the trailhead is a nightmare on a seemingly endless dirt road. The other trailhead is easily accessible—but the hike itself is three times longer and demands five times more climbing.
