Two very easy and two very hard hikes begin along the Salmon River west of Zigzag. If you’re hiking with children, stick to the two easy, paved loops in the Bureau of Land Management’s park-like Wildwood Recreation Site. For a more athletic challenge, tackle the Boulder Ridge or Bonanza trails instead. They both rocket 3000 feet uphill to a rocky ridgecrest atop Huckleberry Mountain, where a view of four snowpeaks awaits.
