For a quick sample of the Wallowa Mountain’s high country, ride a tramway’s gondola up from Wallowa Lake to Mt. Howard. Crowds of tourists follow an easy loop trail from the tramway station to Mt. Howard’s summit, where the panorama includes a jagged horizon of snowpeaks. For a more adventurous outing, continue on a faint ridgecrest path to East Peak’s wildflower meadows.
