This beachfront village has been known as a romantic hideaway since the 1800s, when a sea captain is said to have rowed his lady love to Proposal Rock to pop the question. The forested little island is still a good place for an old-fashioned query. These days the rock is accessible on foot from Neskowin’s beach at all but the highest tides, but beware of sneaker waves.
